Jajpur, Oct 15: Rooted in its purpose to contribute towards furthering India’s rising strength in the global manufacturing ecosystem, Jindal Ferrous Limited announced the commissioning of its integrated blast furnace facility at Jajpur, Odisha. The facility was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, in the presence of Hon'ble Minister of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Government of Odisha, Shri Pradeep Bal Samanta, Hon'ble Minister of Industries, Skill Development & Technical Education, Government of Odisha, Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, and Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Jajpur, Dr Rabindra Narayan Behera, marking the formal commissioning of JFL's first manufacturing complex. Developed with an investment of over INR 5,000 crore, the facility reflects JFL’s focus on building integrated, resource-efficient, and future-ready manufacturing capabilities aligned with India’s industrial and infrastructure growth trajectory.

The integrated blast furnace complex includes a sinter plant, 2.2 MTPA steel melt shop, and associated infrastructure. The integrated setup also enables recycling of metallurgical waste through the sinter plant and utilisation of process gases across operations. Built with future-focused automation systems, the plant is designed to achieve high levels of operational efficiencies, creating one of the region’s most modern steel facilities. All the major equipment suppliers are from Europe like Paulwurth S.A for Blast Furnace, UHT Sweden for Granshot, Primetals Austria for Sinter plant/SMS-BOF/ Caster and Danielli Italy for Ladle Furnace/HMDS.

To achieve quick and efficient ramp-up, JFL has also tied up with one of the leading steel manufacturers in the world, JFE Steel Corporation, Japan for technical collaboration. Their technical know-how and expertise in this field shall help JFL in producing quality steel in an efficient manner.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, said,

“Odisha has immense potential to emerge as a leading destination for industrial growth and manufacturing in India. From the initial proposal to the execution of projects on the ground, the Government of Odisha is committed to providing round-the-clock support to investors. With large investments and projects, Odisha Government is focussed on helping generate meaningful employment opportunities for our youth within their own regions and creating economic opportunities for local communities. The commissioning of Jindal Ferrous Limited’s integrated steel facility in Jajpur is an important addition to the state’s industrial ecosystem, reflecting the confidence of industry in Odisha’s resources, infrastructure, and conducive investment environment. We remain committed to fostering an enabling environment for industries to grow and contribute to the state’s and the nation’s development.”

Commenting on the commissioning, Promoter, Jindal Ferrous Limited, Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, said,

“Odisha has emerged as one of India's most important industrial growth centres, offering the right combination of natural resources, infrastructure connectivity, policy support, and long-term manufacturing potential. For Jindal Ferrous, it was the natural choice to establish our first integrated steelmaking complex. As infrastructure development and industrial demand continue to expand across the country, the facility has been built with focus on product quality, process efficiency, and manufacturing reliability at scale. This reflects JFL’s efforts towards creating enduring value while contributing to the country's industrial development and self-reliance ambitions.”

The blast furnace incorporates advanced automation and process optimisation systems, including a Level-2 automation platform with blast furnace expert model, high top-pressure operation, and dry gas cleaning systems aimed at improving process stability and efficiency. As part of its sustainability-focused operational framework, the facility has incorporated water recycling and environmental management systems, including a zero-discharge approach, effluent treatment systems, and upcoming sewage treatment and RO infrastructure.

The plant is strategically located in Odisha owing to its proximity to key raw material sources, pellet availability, and port connectivity, supported by long-term iron ore linkage arrangements. The project is expected to create employment opportunities for 2000+ individuals while contributing to the economic and social development of the surrounding communities.
