PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organized the Conference on Sustainable Printing Inks today at PHD House, New Delhi, with the objective of promoting sustainability in the Indian printing and packaging industry. Aligned with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) principles, the conference emphasized the adoption of eco-responsible, recyclable, and low-VOC printing inks—especially for export-oriented packaging—to align with evolving global environmental standards.
The conference brought together eminent experts and industry leaders, including Dr. Vishal Choudhary, Scientist –F, Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India; Dr. Kamakshi Christopher, Head Technology, DIC India; Mr. Rajesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing – Chemicals Business, Uflex Ltd.; Dr. Sumit Sharma, Programme Officer, UNEP; Dr. Shilpa Anchawale, Head – Technology, Labels & Packaging, Fujifilm Sericol India; Ms. Nandini Chowdhury, General Manager – Technology, Huber Group India; Ms. Deepti Nagpal, Senior Regulatory Manager, Global Product Compliance; and Mr. Sanjeev Bansal, President (Inks & Coatings), Inkofix.
Welcoming the delegates, Mr. Naveen Seth, Deputy Secretary General, PHDCCI, emphasized the theme “Innovations Driving Eco-Friendly Printing Solutions” and reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to promoting sustainable industrial practices.
Dr. Vishal Choudhary lauded PHDCCI’s initiative to convene diverse stakeholders and encouraged the formulation of national standards for printing inks. He invited industry players to channel their recommendations through PHDCCI for effective policy development.
Dr. Sumit Sharma from UNEP called for urgent, collaborative action and emphasized the need for Indian industry to align with international benchmarks to ensure long-term ecological and economic sustainability.
Mr. Rajesh Srivastava highlighted innovations by UFlex in sustainable inks catering to diverse industry needs, while Dr. Kamakshi Christopher elaborated on technical and regulatory frameworks necessary for compliance and innovation.
Dr. Shilpa Anchawale presented cutting-edge solutions in label and packaging inks; Ms. Nandini Chowdhury showcased internationally compliant ink technologies; Ms. Deepti Nagpal provided insights into global compliance frameworks; and Mr. Sanjeev Bansal discussed cost-effective, high-performance inks for various printing formats.
The conference was moderated by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Sangrai, Director, PHDCCI, and saw the participation of over 60 delegates including policymakers, industrialists, R&D professionals, and compliance experts.
The event concluded with a strong consensus on the importance of collective industry action and policy support to advance green technologies and sustainability standards in the printing ecosystem. The enthusiastic response reaffirmed the industry’s growing commitment to sustainable transformation.
