NMIMS Celebrates the Achievements of Graduating Students from Multiple Schools at the 2024 Convocation Ceremony

Mumbai, India, 10th September- NMIMS hosted a grand convocation ceremony at the Mukesh R. Patel Auditorium in Mumbai. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of graduating students from various schools, including the Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy and Technology Management (SPPSPTM), Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS), the Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts (JDSOLA), the School of Design (SOD), and the Centre for International Studies (CIS). The event was marked by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, and proud families.

The event commenced with registering and distributing sashes, followed by gathering graduating students in the auditorium. Dr. Kalyani Barve, from the Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPPSPTM), served as the compere for the day, providing a warm welcome and guiding the proceedings with grace and poise.

The convocation ceremony began with issuing sashes to Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Meena Chintamaneni, Chief Guest Mr. Bhushan Akshikar, Managing Director of GSK Pharmaceuticals India, and members of the Managing Committee. This was followed by the assembly of the academic procession, which entered the auditorium accompanied by a traditional band.

The ceremony officially commenced with an invocation and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, accompanied by the soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana and the NMIMS anthem. Then, Dr. Tanmoy Chakraborty, Additional Registrar of SVKM’s NMIMS, declared the “SVKM’s NMIMS Convocation 2024” open on behalf of the Hon’ble Chancellor.

Following this, Dr. Meena Chintamaneni formally declared the convocation open and presented a bouquet and memento to the Chief Guest, Mr. Bhushan Akshikar.

Dr. Chintamaneni then delivered the opening speech and highlighted the importance of this day in graduates’ lives, “First, I’d like to thank Mr. Akshikar for honoring us with his presence today. To our graduates, congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone. The knowledge and skills you’ve gained here are invaluable and will serve you well as you navigate the complexities of the real world. The challenges you’ve faced have equipped you with the ability to collaborate, communicate, and think critically, tools that are essential in every aspect of life. As you step into this new chapter, remember that you are now a vital part of society. Be responsible, make us proud, and continue to uphold the high values you’ve learned here. Congratulations to you, your families, and a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated faculty for their unwavering commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

Following the addresses, the degrees were conferred upon the graduating students. The presentation of degrees began with the Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy and Technology Management (SPPSPTM), followed by the Sunandan Divatia School of Science (SDSOS), Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts (JDSOLA), School of Design (SOD), and the Centre for International Studies (CIS). The respective Deans, including Dr. Jagannath Sahoo (SPPSPTM), Dr. Jayakumar Singh Bondil (SDSOS), Dr. Achyut Vazè (JDSOLA), Dr. Guruprasad Kuppu Rao (SOD), and Mrs. Deepali Kamble (CIS), accompanied Dr. Meena Chintamaneni in presenting the degrees to the students.

After the degree conferrals, Dr. Chintamaneni administered the traditional convocation oath, and Dr. Kalyani Barve presented the sustainability oath, emphasizing the responsibility of the graduates towards sustainable practices. The respective deans and directors then announced awards for meritorious students, presented by the chief guest, Mr. Bhushan Akshikar, and accompanied by Dr. Chintamaneni.

The ceremony proceeded towards the conclusion with the release of the publication “By Inquisitive Research and Design – Vol II” from the School of Design, presented by the dignitaries on the dais. Dr. Kalyani Barve introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Bhushan Akshikar, who then delivered the convocation address.

In his speech, Mr. Akshikar shared insights from his professional journey and offered valuable advice to the graduates as they embark on their careers. “Today marks the culmination of a journey filled with hard work, diligence, and relentless effort. As we celebrate this milestone, let us also honor the sacrifices and contributions of those who supported you along the way, your families and loved ones. As you step into a world driven by technological advancements, sustainable development, and a commitment to equity and diversity, remember that it’s perfectly fine not to have all the answers. Embrace curiosity, ask questions, and always seek to learn. It is this mindset that will empower you to make a meaningful impact in both your professional and personal lives.”

Dr. Meena Chintamaneni then declared the SVKM’s NMIMS Convocation 2024 closed, with Dr. Meena Chintamaneni making the official announcement. The event was a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students, who now embark on the next phase of their careers. The convocation ended on a high note, with the national anthem and the academic procession receding from the auditorium, marking the conclusion of a memorable day.
