K J Somaiya Institute of Management Welcomes MBA Class of 2026-2028

Mumbai, June 22: K J Somaiya Institute of Management (KJSIM), Mumbai, welcomed its MBA Class of 2026-2028.  The incoming cohort comprises 667 students drawn from 25 states across India. This year, the institute recorded a near-equal gender split across its MBA programmes, with 50.50% female and 49.50% male enrolment. KJSIM ranks among India's top business schools and holds the coveted AACSB accreditation.

From this batch onwards, KJSIM has launched a new initiative, Somaiya Ventures, for students who wish to pursue entrepreneurship. The venture-building platform will allow students to develop, test, and grow business ideas during their MBA journey. They will be supported through mentorship, incubation support, industry guidance, and access to seed funding through a dedicated ₹1 crore corpus. Selected ventures will also have opportunities to connect with investors and incubation networks. The experience will help them take their ideas beyond the classroom and gain hands-on experience in building and running a business.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Shri. Motilal Oswal, Chairman and Managing Director, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited; Shri. Samir Somaiya, President, Somaiya Vidyavihar and Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University; and Dr Raman Ramachandran, Dean & Director, KJSIM.

A Cohort Built for the Complexity Ahead

The incoming batch is distributed across the flagship MBA, MBA Healthcare Management, and MBA Sports Management. Commerce graduates account for 55% of the academic composition, followed by engineering, science, arts, and other disciplines. 80% of students join as fresh graduates; the remaining 20% bring prior industry experience.

To support access to management education, KJSIM awarded ₹1.32 crore in scholarships and financial aid to the incoming batch, including full merit scholarships.

A Message from the Market

Inviting students to broaden their perspective, Chief Guest Motilal Oswal advised, “I want you (students) to think about wealth in a broader sense. Wealth is not only financial. It is intellectual, physical, emotional, and social. Take the time to figure out your own parameters for success and build a life aligned with your values and aspirations. My wish for all of you is a life rich in every form of wealth—knowledge, health, relationships, purpose, and prosperity. “काम ऐसा करो कि नाम हो जाए, और फिर नाम सुनते ही आपके सब काम हो जाएँ।“

Where Values Meet Vision

Welcoming the students to the Somaiya family, Chancellor Samir Somaiya said, “You enter a world facing unprecedented challenges - from climate change to shifting geopolitical realities. Yet these challenges also present opportunities for those willing to explore, learn, create, and lead. We need individuals who will not only build successful careers but also contribute meaningfully to society and the country. As you begin this journey, remain curious. Take risks and have an entrepreneurial mindset. Most importantly, learn to fall in love with life - with its possibilities, its people, and its endless opportunities for growth”.

Engineering Day-One Capability

KJSIM carries a single conviction: a graduate leaving this institution should need no ramp-up time. The institute's purpose of Transforming Together, puts that conviction into practice. KJSIM’s Dean and Director, Raman Ramachandran, encouraged the incoming cohort to view their MBA journey as a transformative experience rather than merely an academic pursuit. “I urge you to see this programme as an opportunity that will shape the way you think, lead, and create impact for years to come”. Elaborating on the KJSIM Way, he addressed the students, adding, “At KJSIM, you will learn differently through a blend of academic rigour, competency-led development, and experiential learning. You will grow continuously through a journey of personal transformation, behave responsibly by embracing professionalism and institutional values, and belong meaningfully by building strong relationships and lifelong networks”.

Experienced faculty members and Industry experts join the cohort during the opening week, giving students an early and unfiltered view of the professional environments they will soon enter. That access runs through every semester, every live project, every alumni interaction, and every internship that feeds the placement pipeline. KJSIM's 16,000-strong global alumni base and over 20 international university collaborations extend that network well beyond the campus and far beyond graduation.

At KJSIM, transformation is not a destination at the end of two years. It is the journey itself. By the time the Class of 2026-2028 walks out of this campus, they will carry more than a degree; they will carry the instincts, the values, and the readiness to lead from day one.
