WPC Members Unite to Bring Phygital Sports to Latin American SchoolsHONG KONG, 05th May 2025: Four World Phygital Community (WPC) members, based in Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil, have joined forces to launch a bold new chapter in phygital sports across Latin America. Through the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), they are set to roll out a groundbreaking Phygital School Games initiative, bringing the fusion of physical and digital competition into the heart of education.

Spearheaded by the Guatemalan Esports Association, the Phygital School Games initiative is designed to unlock the full potential of young people by blending technology, strategy, and athleticism. More than just a competition, it aims to be a movement that encourages active lifestyles, reduces school dropout rates, and supports crime prevention through positive, purpose-driven engagement. At its core, the program seeks to empower students through competition, discipline, and the enduring values of sport.

Dan Merkley, Chairperson and Managing Director of the World Phygital Community said, “The World Phygital Community is delighted to see four of our WPC members championing the potential of phygital sports to inspire and empower the next generation of young people. This initiative represents a significant step in expanding phygital sports. It is a great opportunity to prove the phygital sports concept in schools across Latin America. The Phygital School Games will create new opportunities for young athletes to develop skills that bridge the digital and physical worlds, to shape the future of competitive sports, and contribute positively to healthy, active communities.”

“The MOU represents a firm commitment among our organizations to provide young people with new learning opportunities based on the values that sports instill, high competitiveness, and holistic development through the combination of physical and digital competitions,” said Pablo Melgar, President of the Guatemalan Esports Association (ADEG).

With the implementation of the Phygital School Games in these four countries, the initiative is expected to impact thousands of students, encourage the creation of more regional tournaments, and establish a sustainable structure for the growth of phygital sports in Latin America.
