September 6th, 2024: On the auspicious occasion of Teacher’s Day, Amity University Haryana hosted a thought-provoking event under the banner of the Academic Staff College. The event, themed “Empowering Educators for Viksit Bharat: Redefining the Role of Teachers in the Digital Age and Overcoming 21st Century Challenges,” brought together distinguished dignitaries and participants in both physical and virtual modes. It aimed to explore the evolving role of educators in the digital era while addressing the challenges faced by the education sector in the 21st century.
The program began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and a soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessings of the Goddess of Knowledge. Dignitaries, faculty members, and students participated in offering floral tributes to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, commemorating his legacy as a scholar, philosopher, and teacher. The D-Block Auditorium resonated with positive energy as the program unfolded.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. PB Sharma delivered a captivating address, paying tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He emphasized the crucial role teachers play at every stage of our lives, drawing attention to the nurturing influence of mothers as the first teachers. Prof. Sharma highlighted the wonders of modern technology and its potential to transform lives, stressing the importance of integrating it to realize the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Additionally, he underscored the significance of discipline and decorum in students’ lives and the responsibilities teachers bear in shaping the youth of the nation. His message centered on self-discipline, self-awareness, and the power of education in guiding individuals toward righteousness and success.
Prof. Dr. Vikas Madukar, Pro Vice Chancellor, further delved into the alignment of teaching passion and philosophy with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. He provided valuable insights into India’s GDP, Gross National Happiness Index, and Human Development Index, offering a holistic view of the nation’s progress. Prof. Madukar underscored the need for teachers to embrace their roles in addressing complex challenges while taking responsibility for their actions. His speech, filled with personal anecdotes and examples, called for a deeper appreciation of the teacher within every individual.
The event also featured an enlightening address by Dr. Rakesh Pankaj, Director & Head of Education & Skills at FICCI. Dr. Pankaj shared FICCI’s efforts in advancing education and skill development through policy frameworks, emphasizing the need for an ecosystem that allows teachers to work autonomously with the support of technology. He advocated for faculty development and leadership management programs to upskill teachers, ensuring they are equipped to navigate future challenges while making the learning space exciting and enriching for students.
Prof. Dr. Sanjna Vij, Deputy Director, Academic Staff College and chief coordinator of the event expressed heartfelt appreciation for the tireless dedication of educators. She emphasized the role of teachers in nurturing the younger generation into responsible citizens, underlining the importance of providing them with the necessary resources, tools, and technology to succeed. Prof. Vij encouraged educators to cultivate a joyful and vibrant atmosphere that promotes student growth, aligning with the broader goal of a prosperous Viksit Bharat.
The event concluded on a high note with over 500 students, faculty members, deans, directors, and heads of departments in attendance, celebrating Teacher’s Day with thought-provoking discussions and shared insights. The collective wisdom of the speakers illuminated the path forward for educators in the digital age, marking the end of an enriching and inspiring evening.
