Kochi, 23rd October 2024: “The only support we can give them is to stand with them and become bold,” said popular Malayalam film actress Sminu, as she shared her challenging journey of her mother’s battle with breast cancer. “Cancer is not the last word,”. She was speaking with the breast cancer survivors at the Survivors Meet organized by Aster Medcity, in commemoration of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“If you can come with a smiling face, please come, otherwise don’t,” Sminu recalled telling her relatives, stressing the importance of positive energy during the healing process.
The event, held to honor breast cancer survivors, featured key insights from Aster Medcity’s expert oncology team. Around 30 breast cancer survivors attended the event with families. Sakhi, the breast cancer awareness initiative by Aster Medcity, has been actively conducting educational sessions in various settings, including IT parks, colleges, residential associations, and clubs. To further expand its reach and impact, Sakhi 3.0 was also launched during the event.
Dr. Arun R Warrier, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology, Dr. Jem Kalathil, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Dr. Sharath S, Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Dr. Sooraj K.M, Kerala Medical Director, and Dr. Durgapoorna, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, addressed the attendees, discussing advancements in breast cancer treatment and the importance of early detection. Doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff participated.
